Work in progress in Gjirokastra Bypass

Currently, 50% of work is completed

The Dunavat area, which was previously “isolated” not only because of infrastructural depreciation but also it presented considerable risks for its inhabitants in terms of landslide, is turning into a new attraction pole within Gjirokastra. The project for the construction of the Bypass in the Historic Center (Nanxa Bridge - Large Dunavat Bridge) has played a significant role for the development in the area, which is realized by the ADF through the Albanian Government.

Similarly, with the successful project on “Rehabilitation of Qafa e Pazarit”, the project is an added value and promotes start-ups. Moreover, it creates opportunities for new accommodation units (hotels, guesthouses etc.) and affect positively on increasing number of tourists, turning the area into another source of regeneration for the city.

“The road will reveal another touristic attraction in Gjirokastra such as the Dunavat neighbourhood, where there are placed numerous characteristic houses with historical and architectural values”, explainsDeputy of the area Mr. Bledi Cuci..

It has been among the most desired projects and it directly affects about 4400 inhabitants. Beside that the number of tourists is continuously increasing, they elaborate that this investment will “relieve the city from cars”, increasing safety and making more functional the area. Furthermore, the intervention protects and expose more values on the historic area.

The construction of the Bypass is towards implementation process and it is part of an “architectural ensemble”such as "Cerciz Topulli" Squere, the Systemization of Museums and Restauration of its Trails along them, including other areas and parking building). The investment corresponds to the main focus of the ADF, which is not simply related to the compilation of certain infrastructural projects, where it intervenes in order to develop a “complete investments’ portfolio”. At the same time, this construction considerably improves living conditions and helps tourism industry for economic/social development onwards in every region of the country.
