TIRANA - The action plan for the feasibility study to make the waste water treatment plant in Orikum operational, as well as for the supply water system for the whole area is ready. The waste water treatment plant was constructed in 2015.

The preliminary concept for the feasibility study, designed by a German company, was presented at a joint meeting with participants Christina Kern, Bledar Dollaku, representatives of the KfW, representatives of the Albanian Development Fund, Dorian Xhelili-director of Vlora Water Supply and Sewerage Company, etc. The German Development Bank, KfW, on the behalf of German government, plans to invest 7 million Euro in Orikum area in the municipality of Himara.

The feasibility study is expected to be finalized in February 2019. Meanwhile, part of the investment package from KfW will be also the water treatment plant and water system of Himara. The latter’s feasibility study is ready.

 

The finalization of these feasibility studies paves the way for the signing of the financial agreement between the two governments next year and the beginning of the projects’ implementation.

Investments in Himara and Vlora will be carried out over a period of 5 years through the program “Rural Water Supply Program IV” which is implemented by the Albanian Development Fund. This is the fourth program entrusted to the ADF since the beginning of cooperation with KfW in 2008.

About 100,000 inhabitants are the beneficiaries of the projects in Orikum and the Municipality of Himara.

Works on the feasibility studies for waste water treatment and water supply in Orikum and in the municipality of Himara started months ago. A group of German experts and ADF engineers have held several meetings and visits on site to assess the current situation of the water supply and wastewater treatment in both project beneficiary municipalities.
