“The Improvement of Secondary and Local Roads” Project, co-financed by the World Bank and other donors at the cost of $ 400 million US, aims at increasing the concrete efforts for the improvement of infrastructure in the country and for increasing the access to basic services and markets, especially in rural areas via the rehabilitation of 1500 km of road network.

Community Works Program III aims at improving the living conditions for the inhabitants in rural areas by encouraging social and economic development through improvement of primary infrastructure, increase in community participation at decision making and enhancement of governing institutions at local level. The Program includes 16 communes located countrywide, which are endowed not only with special traits in tourism (these communes apply special forms of coastal, highland, historical, ecological, cultural and agricultural tourism) but which have at the same time special needs concerning capacity building.

The main objective of this project is to improve and secure the living conditions of the rural population via the construction of 28 water supply schemes which will provide the population of 50 villages with hygienic, clean water in sufficient quantity based on operation and maintenance cost-covering and socially accepted tariffs.
