Project / Program Title: “KOSOVO EMERGENCY PROJECT”

Goal:
Facing of the emergency social and economic situation of the year 1999 and the possible consequences as a result of the arrival in Albania of the removed Kosovo’s population during the spring of this year

Objective:
Rehabilitation of the local infrastructure connected to the location and the functioning of the accommodation centers and the areas where the Kosovo population was settled
Promotion and improvement of some community social services especially for the vulnerable groups such as older and young groups of people.

Project Description:
The Project was also considered as the supplement to the “Community Works Project I”, considering that it was granted shortly after the commencement of the complete above Project. Its distribution area was completely related to the areas mostly impacted by the Kosovo emergency.

The main components of the Project are:
Infrastructure works
Equipment (in support of the above component)
Social services’ program; The Project was aiming at the rehabilitation of 30 local infrastructure sub-projects and completion of 10-12 social programs addressed to 10 different regions of the country.

Target groups:
Local communities of rural and urban intervention areas, vulnerable groups mainly old people and groups of young people.

Stakeholders involved:
World Bank, Albanian Government, Commune/Municipalities and their local communities, ADF, local NGO-s.

Budget:

5 million USD

Duration:

1999 – 2003

Other comments:
This Project was assessed both during the mid-term period and by the end in the framework of the assessment of the “Community Works Project I”, considering that it was treated by the World Bank as a supplementary funding of that Project. The results of the assessment have been satisfactory.
