Project / Program Title: “CROSS BORDER” PROJECT”

Goal:
Improvement of possibilities for a better communication between neighbor countries of the region through improvements in the national transport infrastructure.

Objective:
Rehabilitation of larger infrastructure compared to the local infrastructure previously rehabilitated by the ADF, which are considered important to the cross border communication
Facilitate the transport of goods and people between the neighbor countries of Albania, Greece, Italy and Macedonia.

Project Description:
This Program was designed as a need and initiative of the countries of the region supported by the European Community with the aim of facilitating and improving important communication elements among neighboring countries. The Program is funded by two neighbor countries of Albania, which are members of the European Community, Italy and Greece. The financing consists of two Programs initiated in different periods but consecutive to each other. The first project was designed in 1996 and the targeted types of sub-projects are only important urban roads in cities close to the border such as Korca, Durres, Gjirokastra etc The second in 1999 and the targeted types of sub-projects are roads, aqueducts and markets.

The main components of the Project are:
Urban infrastructure works
Operational support to the Programs.

Target groups:
Beneficiary urban communities of the cities on the both sides of the border

Stakeholders involved:
European Community, Italian and Greek Governments, Albanian Government, local government and community.

Budget:

5,45 million EURO

Duration:

1999 – 2002

Other comments:
The total fund of this Program includes also the fund allocated for the Lezha penitentiary as funding of the European Community through the Italian Government.
