ADF staff on a study-tour in Greece from October 17 - 24, 2009

From October 17 - 24, 2009 a group of technical experts from ADF went to Greece on a study-tour to exchange experiences. During these days, meetings were held with representatives of Selanic Prefecture and various field visits were conducted to observe the quality and the techniques used by Greek engineering companies in the construction of infrastructure objects such as: roads, tunnels, retaining walls, water supply schemes etc.

It is worth mentioning the field visit in a tunnel where one of the traffic control centers was installed to monitor the traffic, vehicle speed and loading, travel time, the quantity of salt applied on the road surface in snowy weather, the amount of air in the tunnel, illumination etc.

This study-tour continued with the visit at the Prefecture of Piraeus-Athens where the Albanian constructing engineers were acquainted with the criteria, selection methods, preparation and approval of projects and finally with the project management, their implementation, supervision and maintenance approaches. In the course of this meeting, the team was introduced to the procedures and criteria guiding the procurement process.

In the following days, the ADF group visited the water supply scheme in Salamina Island and the sewage treatment plant in the periphery of Athens; The techniques used in the construction of these works were closely observed by the group and interesting discussions were held among the Albanian engineers and their Greek counterparts. Another group of the ADF technical staff is going to visit Greece in November where the same agenda will be followed.
