Drishti Castle which has been declared "A Cultural Monumet" since 1948, is one of the most important monuments in the city of Shkodra which has been explicitly taken into consideration by the policies on cultural tourism in this region.
This project which is financed by the Council of Europe Development Bank and implemented by the Albanian Development Fund consists in the upgrading of the road which leads to Drishti Castle and not only the route has been impassable for the vehicles but also it has been very difficult to be traversed by the pedestrians.
The cost of this project which encompasses road widening and excavations, works of art, retaining walls and embankments, gravel and asphalt courses is 37 006 632 leks. The overall road length is 3 km and its width varies from 3,5 m to 4 m. It is worth mentioning that in the course of the project implementation, special attention has been paid to the environmental safeguard procedures by protecting to the best possible the environment and particularly the centuries-old olive trees which border the road to Drishti Castle.
There are about 1700 inhabitants in Postribe Commune which shall directly benefit from this project. They express satisfaction over their long cherished hope of this investment. However, the greatest impact of this investmenst will be on tourism.Currently, the tourism-site of Mesi Bridge which is located only 4 km ahead of Drishti Castle is being fairly frequented by visitors. The lack of transport facilities has impeded so far the tourists to proceed further with their cultural tourist visit to Drishti Castle.Via this road upgrading, the number of tourists shall increase contributing in this way to the development of small local economies related to tourism.
Postribe Commune, where Drishti Village lies with its Castle as a cultural heritage, is one of the two Communes selected by the Albanian Development Fund in the region of Shkodra. This Castle is situated at a distance of 6 km away from Mesi Bridge over Kir River. The present village is located at the foot of the hill where the castle is erected. The vestiges of the castle date back to Roman times where the castle was used as a dwelling place on Shkoder-Kosovo Road and which during the late-Antiquity served as a chain fortress protecting the city of Shkodra.
Other projects which are going to be implemented by Albanian Development Fund for this Commune consist in the reconstruction of Koder-Boks road and reconstruction of the tourist pedestrian route "Mesi Bridge”.
