Berat, 28 May 2010 - Prime Minister Berisha inaugurates the completion of the road construction from Ura e Gorices to Mbreshtan and the start of works for construction of the road section from Mbreshtan to Sinje


During his scheduled visit in the District of Berat, the Prime Minister Berisha inaugurated on Friday the completion of works for the reconstruction of the road from Ura e Gorices to Mbreshtan and the start of works for the reconstruction of the road from Mbreshtan to Sinje. Mr. Benet Beci, the Executive Director of the Albanian Development Fund was also present at this event.

The reconstruction of the road section  “Ura e Gorices-Mbreshtan” with a length of 7.8 km was carried out in the framework of the Secondary and Local Roads project financed by OFID and implemented by the Albanian Development fund at a cost of  205 million leke. Whereas the reconstruction of the other road section from Mbreshtan to Sinje with a  length of  10.1 km and which is expected to be finished in February 2011 is financed by Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) and is being implemented by the Albanian Development fund in the framework of the Secondary and Local Roads Project.

 These investments will serve the 12000 inhabitants in the areas where these projects are implemented and it will provide powerful incentives for the promotion of local and international tourism thus contributing broadly to improve the living conditions for the inhabitants in this area and to increase the frequency of visits by potential tourists.

The Prime Minister Berisha after the heartfelt greetings, assured the inhabitants that the government was going to keep and turn into reality each promise made and he stated that only a developed and modern Albania could achieve  its major goal  that of the integration into the European Union.

The road section to be constructed is part of the Secondary and Local Roads Project, cofinanced by the World Bank and other donors at an overall cost of 400 million USD. This project aims to improve the local infrastructure and increase the Access to local markets and basic services especially in the rural areas via the rehabilitation of 1500 km of road network.
