The 400 thousand euro agreement allocated by the Albanian Government to the Commune of Gracanica was signed on Thursday 13th May at hotel “Victoria” in Pristina.

The agreement for this 400 thousand euro donation that the Albanian Government has planned in support of the newly established communes in Kosovo, was signed on behalf of the Albanian party, by Mr. Benet Beci, Executive Director of the Albanian Development Fund and by Mr. Bojan Stojanovic, Chairman of the newly established Commune of Gracanica.

Mr. Islam Lauka, the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Kosovo, upon signing this agreement stated: “We have just witnessed the signing of a simple agreement but which is so meaningful and symbolic. The agreement consists in financing four projects for the commune of Gracanica via an investment which is not very considerable in its absolute value but it has got a remarkable value due to the message transmitted by this investment. The signing of this document attests to a new vision and mentality both for the donor and the Commune of Gracanica which accepts this donation.”

Whereas Mr. Stojanovic among other things said: “We came back from Tirana with our best impressions. These impressions confirm that we are going to build a common future and change the system of values in order to be together as part of the European Union. We are going to establish an up-to-date society, putting aside our differences, and working on projects with a common interest in order to provide a better future to our citizens.”

Considering the fact that the Commune of Gracanica has about 20 thousand inhabitants mainly from the Serbian Community, the assistance of the Albanian government constitutes an incentive in establishing a collaborative climate among ethnic groups of this community.

This agreement which is going to finance the reconstruction of Gracanica Stadium, the upgrading of the Commune Fountain, the road leading to the Gracanica Monastery as well as the sewer system systematization is based on a preliminary plan of action with concrete project proposals in the sphere of investments prepared by the Commune of Gracanica.

These projects are selected and are going to be implemented through the support provided by the Albanian Development Fund. These projects are expected to have a positive impact not only on improving living conditions for the inhabitants of this community but also in establishing a climate of harmony and understanding among ethnic communities.
