Improvement of the Secondary and Local Roads Project
The Project Development Objective is to improve access to essential services and economic markets, via the provision of all weather roads, for the resident population in the hinterland of the project roads.

The project proposes to achieve this objective through the (i) the improvement of priority sections of the secondary (regional) road network across Albania; (ii) the improvement of priority sections of the local road network across Albania; (iii) the introduction of the private sector in the maintenance of the secondary and local road network; and (iv) strengthening of the management of the secondary and local road network.

Tirana, August 2, 2008 – The Government of Albania has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Secondary and Local Roads Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contracts for the civil works as given in the paragraph below.(read)

Tirana, July 17, 2008 – The Albanian Parlament approves The Credit Agreement for the project: “Secondary And Local Roads “. The credit agreement for the secondary and Local Roads, was officially ratified by the Albanian Parliament in a parliamentary session. The agreement passed earlier this week in three Parliamentary Committees (Economy and Finance, Law, and Production Activities).(read)

Tirana, July 2, 2008 – Today Albania and the World Bank signed the credit agreements for three World Bank financed projects, totaling USD 64.5 million, which consist of: Improvement of the Secondary (regional) and Local (communal) Roads Project (USD20 million from IDA); Disaster Risk Mitigation and Adaptation Project (USD6.2 million from IDA credit and USD3 million IBRD loan); and The Energy Community of South East Europe APL Program – APL 5 for Albania Dam Safety Project (USD 35.3 million from IDA). Tirana, June 3, 2008 – The World Bank Board of Directors today approved a US$20 million credit for the Secondary and Local Roads Project in Albania to improve access to essential services and economic markets, especially in rural areas, by improving the condition, management, and financing of regional and local roads in the country. Tirana, April 9, 2008 – The World Bank and the Government of Albania negotiated for two days a new credit for the Improvement of the secondary (regional) and Local (communal) Roads Projects in Albania. On 5-7 March in Ohrid city, was organized the meeting for the” Annual ADF Work Analysis for 2007”. The scope of this activity was the general analysis for the activities, results evidence, and identification of possible problems, lessons learned and the definition of the working plan for 2008.(read)

Tirana, 29 February 2008 - Today at the headquarters of ADF, was signed the contract between the international Consultant “Roughton International”, represented by Mr. Nick Gardner, Executive Director, and ADF, represented by Mr. Benet Beci, Executive Director.
