The Loan and Project Agreement for the second phase of the “Rural Water Supply Programme’’ is signed.kfw
The Albanian Development Fund supported by the KFW Bank is the implementing agency for this important Programme. This agency has a long and successful experience in cooperating with Local Government Units for the identification and implementation of the local infrastructure projects.
The program aims at the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the rural water supply systems and if applicable of the sewer systems, constituting an important step towards a sustainable financing and managing of these systems in the future.
The purpose of the project is to supply the population in the selected programme villages with hygienically clean water in sufficient quantity, based on cost – covering and socially accepted tariffs. This is to contribute to improving and securing the living conditions of the inhabitants in rural regions.
The cost of this Programme amounts at 10 million euros for the first phase where 40 to 50 objects will be financed and 1.5 million euros for the second phase where 10 objects are envisaged to be financed. The Programme is foreseen to last 6 years and it will provide an international expertise which will enable a substantial improvement of the technical and managing standards in the implementation of the Programme.
The main Programme activities consist in:

  • Rehabilitation or reconstruction of the rural water supply systems and sewer systems;
  • Planning, reconstruction and supervision of  project implementation;
  • Accompanying Measures of the Programme,  provision of assistance  for the management of the reconstructed water supply systems included;

  Currently ADF has started the implementation of the first phase of the “Rural Water Supply Programme” based on the Loan, Financing and Project Agreement signed on December 13, 2007.
