The Conference “A new dimension for a sustainable development”

The Albanian Development Fund in collaboration with the World Bank, organized on 30 October 2007, the conference “A new dimension for a sustainable development”. In this conference were presented the activities completed by Albanian Development Fund and the values that this institution has created within its 14 years of experience on assisting the Local Government Units, by increasing their capacities on the decentralization framework, focusing more on the administration of local infrastructure investments. 
The conference was greeted by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Gazmend Oketa, as Chairperson of ADFs’ Board of Trustees, and Mrs. Camille Nuamah, Country Manager of World Bank in Albania. On their remarks these two high representatives, expressed their support for the activity of ADF and raised the need for coordinated and studied efforts in order to face the important challenges of the Local development in Albania.
The executive director of ADF Mr. Benet Beci made a resume of the activities of this institution and the strategic directions for the future. Special interest was shown by the participants for the presentation of the most recent experience with the Local Development Plans Piloting and the technical assistance for the evaluation of the rural roads applications for the Governmental Competitive Grants Program.  
During this conference were pointed up the new projects that Albanian Development fund is going to manage for the coming years. The most important project is “Secondary and Local Roads project”, that will improve substantially thousand km of rural roads allover the country. This project is financed by the Albanian government with a loan from the World Bank and other donors and is estimated to start on 2008. Other projects include the construction of rural water supplies with the financial support of KfW, and intervention on rural infrastructure by the Council of Europe Bank.
